ABOUT

Peter Engelsmann is an artist and muralist, based in St. Louis, Missouri.

Peter has created original commissioned artwork since 1995. He is best known for his detailed hand-painted wall murals, designed for residential, commercial, and public spaces.

His work engages the imagination with depictions of lush landscapes, life-like portraits, and detailed architectural elements. Many of his paintings create a trompe l’oeil (trick of the eye) illusion of three dimensional space. Mural projects have ranged from small commissions to highly elaborate painted environments, created for a wide range of clients, including home owners, designers, businesses, hospitals, churches and schools. Whether painted on-site or in the studio, Peter's murals are collaborations between artist and client, each piece designed and executed for its intended space.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Peter obtained a studio art degree from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. After returning to St. Louis, he designed and donated a jungle themed mural to “Our Little Haven”, a non-profit organization for children. The project was featured in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and requests for commissions followed. In the years since, Peter has created an extensive body of work, exceeding 150 murals. Clients include The Saint Louis Club, Drury Hotels, Whole Foods Markets, Starbucks Coffee, Washington University, and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Peter’s art challenges viewers with paintings that are both aesthetically and intellectually compelling. “In every case, he has taken the clients direction and produced results that go far beyond what was envisioned in the sheer quality of the art. He paints with the skill, maturity, facility and courage which mark a true master of his craft.” -Harry Weber

In addition to painting, Peter is also a photographer, musician, and occasional filmmaker.
